Save That Date!

David finally finished printing the save the dates. I'm super excited to have them in my hands. We are addressing envelopes this weekends and they are going out Monday. We're a little behind schedule, but its ok. Everything will fall into place.

A small taste...

Some decisions made!

Last time I left off I was headed to a cake tasting. It ended up being the most successful because I finally made my decision. It was so easy and fast. I was meant to meet up with Brittany from Filled and Frosted. Brittany was super helpful, down to earth and reasonable! Plus her cakes are beautiful AND delicious!

OK, I have some things I need to do now, til next time.

more cake!!

I have been slacking off on this pretty bad but anyways. Weds I went to Streeter's catering and got a quote from them. we are most likely going with them for the wedding. We have been going back and forth with this food ordeal. We were supposed to have a business friend who owns a restaurant cater but his restaurant is very small and we would also need wait staff. So we would probably end up having to hire wait staff anyways, plus a bar tender. So we finally made the decision to try Streeter's. David's parents have used them for years to cater parties etc. So it wasn't unfamiliar territory. The catering manager who is most likely an owner (family business) was very helpful and super nice. I'm excited to go with them. It's just one more thing I can check off my list and not think about anymore.

Today!
I will be going to David's parents to meet with a new cake lady. Actually she's young, my age. She was recommended to us by a good family friend (also the guy who is doing my hair for the wedding). He owns Lyon's salon in South Miami. He recommended  this girl to us, that he uses her for all his events. So we decided to give her a call. Her website had some impressive cake photos. Plus her cake flavors and fillings sounded pretty good. Check it out Filled and Frosted.

And in other news. I have started yet another wedsite. The blog I follow finally decided to make their designs free, so I changed m wedsite to one of their designs. It was a design I had originally wanted but since it wasn't free I went with another website. check the new one out Michelle and David.

OK, til next time.

It's been a while

I have been slacking pretty bad on the posts. Reason being that David and I finally moved. We have been in our new place for almost a month now and it's been great. WE just got internet hooked up Monday, so now I will be able to get back into the swing of things.

Since my last posting on pistils and petals, I haven't done too much more. We will NOT be going with our almost $6,000 quote for flowers from Pistils and Petals. I'm sure they do fabulous work, but my wedding can't afford to be THAT fabulous. I knew that flowers were going to be an issue considering I want real flowers, and all the flowers I wants are the ones that are most expensive. UGH.

So we are trying to buy our own centerpiece containers at an extremely discounted price from an online retailer. And then we are talking with, yet another business acquaintance who's wife does flowers to see if she can give us a better rate. It's amazing how much money people spend on weddings. There are a lot of things that have come up that I have completely said no to just based on the price. Call me cheap but I will NOT pay $780 for delivery, set up and pick up. Sorry. It's outrageous how much people charge for stuff.

Flower ideas are fairly set in stone, but no contracts have been signed or agreements made.

The cake is yet again an issue. Susie's was delicious but again, the cost was too high. I am looking into a few other places for the cake.

Save the dates and invitations. HA! We are getting this almost free. Did I already post this? David owns a screen printing company and I had mentioned to him from the beginning that I wanted his talents involved somewhere in the wedding. Whether it be printing T-shirts, or designing napkins or whatever. I assumed that the invitations might be a little much to do. But when we started getting ideas and quotes, I realized that my ideas and visions were not available in print. I couldn't find anything I wanted at any stationary store or online store I went to. You get all caught up in the letterpress, embossed, heat embossed, bla bla bla invitations and then you have to factor in if you want envelope liners, envelopes, response cards, etc etc. I found 1 design I liked a lot, but it wasn't fitting into the themes as nicely as I had hoped. So I took that idea and went to David and said, can we make this? something similar to this but instead of this I want this here and that there and bla bla. So the decision was made- David is designing and printing both the save the dates and invitations. The only thing we have to pay for is paper.

The Save The Dates have already been designed, but we were having issues getting the paper samples, and then we had to fix a few things on the STD and again etc, etc. So now we are a month behind in sending the, and I still don't think I even have everyone's address. :-/ Ohwell, I guess they just won't get invited. :) So we decided on a few samples of paper, and my full size samples came in today. So hopefully tomorrow David will print a few tests runs and see which paper the design looks better on.

Phew, this is a lot of info. That I'm sure no one is reading.

Ok that's it for now. Until next week.

Petals, pistils and STD's

I finally met with our potential florist for flower arrangements. After about 45 minutes of looking through magazines and books, I was exhausted. I knew what I didn't want, but not so much of what I DID want. We did exclude a lot of flowers and designs, and I think we have a general idea of what I DO want. We shall see. Oh yea and of course I want all the flowers that are either not in season at the time or really expensive anyways. Figures. Hopefully we can set up some demos and I can get a better idea of what I want. It's hard to make all these decisions. I want things to be pretty simple, but at the same time, I want things to still be pretty. Plus I'm only doing this once so I just want it special. It doesn't help that I'm picky. I didn't realize how picky I was until I started planning my wedding. It's not a good trait I think.

Onward...
David has designed an incredibly amazingly prefect Save the Date. I was going to go with a stationary store for them but they are so expensive and they still weren't quite what I wanted. So I asked David if he wanted to design them and he agreed. David is all for saving money wherever we can. Plus that's what David does- PRINT things. It would only make sense for him to make them, so that way he can put his design ideas into the wedding and we save money at the same time. I'm really excited about them!!! We are just waiting for the paper samples to come in and then we just have to order out paper.

Oh yea, and even bigger news, I finally got a ring! I'm hoping to get a proper proposal soon. :)

Susie's part two

I wanted to add a few more photos, but the proper way. On my previous cake post, I had written everything before I added the photos, so all the photos ended up the top. :/ This time I'm going to add then as I type.

I just wanted to add a few photos of some cakes I was looking at in the books. Suggestions and ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm so confused and I can't make up my mind on the cake designs.
Crap, I have a feeling the photos are still going to end up at the top.
Some of these photos, I'm not even really sure why I took them. The turkey is totally a cake.
Ok I'm falling asleep

Susie's Srumptious Cake

A few Saturdays ago, I went to taste cakes at Susie's in Sunrise and I was very pleased. Not only were Susie and her husband very welcoming, but they also had many more cake options than We Take The Cake. They do free cake tasting every Saturday. You make an appointment and then when you get there you are greeted by Susie's husband aka The Cake Man. You don't even have to be placing an order to go. How awesome is that? Sorry it has taken me forever to update this blog. I've been a little lazy lately as well as busy taking care of my doggies. They are consuming and exhausting, but I love them so much!

here is the cake porn...

Hmm...Blogger Droid seems to be a little different since I updated it, so I'm not really sure where the pictures are going to end up since I've been loading them. Sorry if its a mess.

cakezilla

On Thursday I went to We Take The Cake and here are some photos.

I was a little disappointed with their cakes.

there weren't a lot of options either.

sorry they are a little out of order but I'm doing this from my phone.

so their options were vanilla, lemon, strawberry, red velvet and chocolate. That's it! I was shocked. It wasn't even that good. I think needless to say I won't be using them.

apothecary jars and carpet

David's mom (Laura) and I have been trying to find reasonably priced apothecary jars. Well she got these at Marshall's for the price it would have cost to ship them from an online company we WERE going to order from. We got a GOOD deal. I'm super excited about these babies!

They are so perty!

These are some more carpet pictures. When I was on the Queen Mary in Long Beach in June, I took pictures of the carpet in various rooms. They had really neat carpet. It sort of spawned an interest in carpet designs. So here are a couple more.

This is in the ballroom at Jungle Island.

out of business

I went out last night with some gals to eat at Heart Rock Sushi ans then Blue Martini. Food was delicious and my sticky rice with mango was really god too. David has been under the weather and I feel my throught getting dry. I was just sick like 3 weeks ago. I certainly don't want to get sick again. So anyways I got home at 3am slept for 4 hours and woke up at like 6:45 to take Aussie out. She was no where to be found. After a brief panic attack I found out David's dad took her to the shop. So since I was up I figured I'd do some zillas

I forgot.my.phone at home as we searched for dresses, linens and suits. One dress store was out of business. I found no dresses. I did make some important decisions on table settings. But I'm SUPER tired and i cant see this straight anymore. I'm shocked I'm coherant. Good night.

Wedding ideas, gift registries and kitties

So I went to Macy's to do my gift registry already since I had nothing else in the planning process to do. I registered for some items and got ideas while in the home section.

I really like apothecary jars and there will def be some at my wedding, somewhere. Mine obviously won't have beach items in them.

These little waffle make things are hot right now. They are actually mini bakers. They have some for waffles, donuts, mini cupcakes and even circus shaped waffles. I totally want the circus one.

Peonies! There will be peonies at my wedding as well. :)

More inspiration for gift registries. Anything baking related will make me happy.

I tried these shoes on while trying dresses at David's Bridal. I may get them. But I'm not wearing them at the wedding. I may just go barefoot.

Accidental photo. Not the dress.

Kitty I met with at the Spanish Monastery.

More feral kitties.

This thing was pretty cool. It was in the cloisters as the Spanish Monastery. We're not having the wedding there. I went to check the place out and it just didn't cut it for me. But the place is beautiful and the little detais are what catch my attention.

This little guy was so cute.

This was a structure in the gardens, but what caught my eye were the bird tiles at the bottom.

This was cool

The hearse.

Up close you can see the details in the wood. Can we rent this for our wedding?

My meu meu friend on the way out. He was a cutie.

OK, so wedding planning is still underway. I may go to a trunk show tomorrow for the designer Monique Lhuillier.
We shall see.
Until next time.

bridal expo #2

I went to my second bridal expo tonight, this time with my mom and sister. I can't belive I'm still awake right now. This expo was at the Rusty Pelican. It was bigger than the last one I went to except by the time we got there all the food was GONE! There was a bar set up and they were giving out mimosas and sodas, i got an orange juice. :) I'm super tired, I spent the whole night making another wedding webpage and this blog. I will post photos tomorrow on my free day. Good night for now.

Thurs. July 22, 2010
As promised I am going to add the photos.

fix your hair
Mother of the bride
This was a fake tortoise of all things to put in the pond.
"You need a florist?" "No thanks"
This cake was pretty cute. The ladybugs were cute.

These bridal shows don't seem to help out since I don't like anything they have to offer, aside from freebies. I won a $300 coupon for American Laser Centers at the last expo. I went today to get a consultation for skin rejuvination. 5 sessions of photo facials and microdermabrasion almost $4,000. Um, yea that was WITH my coupons. No thanks.
